22/11/06 - Swindon Special Educational Needs Network Launched
Tuesday evening saw a busy meeting endorse a call for the Government to adopt a new national strategy for children with Special Educational Needs. About fifty people attended the first meeting of Swindon SEN Network, set up by South Swindon Candidate Robert Buckland.
Robert, who has a child with Special Educational Needs, said: "I was delighted to see that parents were able to meet with professionals and obtain valuable information and support. The approach we took was to divide the meeting into groups, enabling everyone to have their say. This will be the first of a regular series of meetings."
Deirdre Holland, Chair of Swindon Dyslexia Association, helped to organise the meeting. She said: "I am delighted that Robert has taken the initiative and organised this network. I am sure that it will be of great benefit to parents, professionals and volunteers".
Robert decided to act after a damning report on SEN provision from the House of Commons Education Select Committee was published last Summer.
