Is It Any Wonder Four Labour Councillors Have Joined The Conservatives?

The Labour MP for North Swindon is in a real muddle over recycling.

In a recent leaflet in Covingham & Nythe whilst discussing recycling he claims, 'Swindon Council is one of the worst Council's in the country.'

As ever - utter rubbish!

Recycling rates have increased from just 19% under the Labour Council, to 27% under the Conservatives.  The 27% figure is well ahead of the national average.

The Conservatives have introduced the full kerbside recycling scheme, and as part of the Swindon 2010, 50 Promises, we have pledged to increase the recycling rates to 50% by 2010.

On other Environmental issues, the Conservatives have made huge changes:

• Introduced free green waste collection.  Labour's scheme of charging residents £1 per green bag was unacceptable.
• Introduced free graffiti removal.  Labour used to charge £60+ per house, leaving local residents to foot the bill of cleaning up the graffiti.
• Opening the new housewaste recycling site at Waterside.

Labour as ever are all talk, a bit more talk, some more talk - and no action!
